Journey

From a Primary School to a Prestigious College

1947-1955

A growing city needs education

After the establishment of Pakistan, Khanpur received a heavy flux of population during 1947-1955. Increasing demand of the people urged some of the sincere philanthropists of Khanpur to set up Anjuman Taraqi-e-Taleem.

1957-1960

Primary School and early growth

A plot was purchased opposite to City Police Station, Khanpur on 6 June 1957 and two rooms were constructed. Soon Taraqi-e-Taleem Primary School started to work. This school was registered to the Anjuman Taraqi-e-Taleem on 3 July 1958 under the Registration Act 1956. The Primary School was upgraded to High School in 1960 and Chaudhary Ibrahim was appointed the first Headmaster of the school.

1965-1966

College established

This school progressed by leaps and bounds, which urged the Anjuman Taraqi-e-Taleem to upgrade it to a college. The Anjuman contacted one of the renowned educationists of the area, Mr. Moeen-ud-Din Hassan Oureshi, and he was kind enough to offer his services for the establishment of the college. The Anjuman also purchased 6.25 acres of land with 4200/- rupees in Model Town Khanpur, a place where the present building of the college is situated. Mr. Moeen-ud-Din joined Taraqi-e-Taleem High School on 4 April 1965 and accelerated his efforts for the establishment of the college. A regular class of first year was started on 26 June 1965 in the High School building. A new block of five rooms was constructed during this period and the college started its regular work on 17 December 1966.

1969-1972

Expansion and nationalization

Intermediate Pre-Engineering classes started in 1969. Office Block, Physics and Chemistry Laboratories, and a store room were constructed with 100 thousand rupees. Soon the Pre-Medical classes also started in the college. The Governing Body of the college gave it the status of a Degree College in 1970 and the college was conditionally affiliated with the Punjab University in 1971. In 1972, the Government of Pakistan decided to nationalize the schools and colleges of the country. So this college was nationalized on 15 March 1972 under Martial Law Regulation Number 118. The college was nationalized as an Intermediate College because its regular affiliation with the Punjab University Lahore was not confirmed till that time.

1981-2004

Land, hostel, and postgraduate growth

In 1981-82 Municipal Committee Khanpur donated two acres of land to the college and the area of the college expanded to 66 kanals. The college was upgraded to Degree level in 1984. A hostel was constructed in 1988-89 to meet the residential problems of the students coming from far-flung areas.
